Welcome to the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. As a founder member of the USM Engineering Campus, we are one of the largest and most successful schools within the campus, with approximately 826 undergraduate and postgraduate students; 52 academic staff; and 38 administrative and technical staff. As such we are a home of a vibrant and diverse research community with activities spanning across the full range of electrical and electronic engineering spectrum.
The core of our activities surround the undergraduate and postgraduate courses that we now delivering through three major disciplines – (i) Electronic Engineering, (ii) Electrical Engineering and (iii) Mechatronic Engineering. We have received full accreditation for our undergraduate and master programmes from the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and, where appropriate, from the Malaysia Qualifying Agency (MQA). This year we yet again scored exceptionally well in the MQA rating systems for Higher Education Institutions in Malaysia (SETARA) with an excellent Tier 5 category. Also the 2012 Graduate Survey produced a very encouraging result with more than 78 % of students indicated the highest level of satisfaction.

School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Universiti Sains Malaysia cooperates with Nuvoton Technology Corporation Taiwan in Academic Program
USM Penang, 2013/04/23 - School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia (SEE USM) formed a partnership with Nuvoton Technology Corporation (NTC), Taiwan, a chip design company having a high interest to partner in ‘Academic Programs’. Nuvoton had donated and provided 20 microcontroller NuMicro ARM Cortex™-M0 NUC 140 learning boards, document, facility for the class for research based on microcontroller ARM Cortex™-M0. Nuvoton had before this donated two units of NuMicro ARM Cortex™-M0 microcontroller learning boards for pre study. This program enables microprocessor and embedded systems courses teaching platform for SEE USM students, lecturers, and professors. It is also to provide knowledge and understanding to students about the latest microcontroller technology 32-bit ARM Cortex™-M0. In addition, transfer of information and technology between the industry and academia will provide mutual benefits to both sides and also realized the technology transfer between Malaysia and Taiwan.
Universiti Sains Malaysia started offering academic programs related to engineering and technology in 1972 under the School of Applied Sciences.
The school was established to offer programmes leading to Bachelor of Applied Science Degree with various specialisation including Electrical and Electronics. Both schools were established in the main campus (Penang). Starting from the 1984/85 academic session, the programmes were offered under the newly established School of Engineering Sciences and Industrial Technology (formerly the School of Applied Sciences). Two undergraduate degree programmes (with honours) were offered in the following fields:
- Electronics Engineering
- Computer and Communications Engineering.
