1st Prize for IEEE Region 10 Undergraduate Student Paper Contest 2016: Tan Ting Feng & Fow Jun Ee from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)

Tan Ting Feng and Fow Jun Ee, undergraduate from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering respectively supervised by Dr. Teoh Soo Siang and Dr. Yen Kin Sam, emerged as the overall winner (1st Prize) at the IEEE Region 10 Undergraduate Student Paper Contest 2016. Their winning paper, entitled “Development of Network Based Surveillance Module (NBSM) for Wildlife Conservation” presented a new form of surveillance technology to monitor wildlife and keep the poachers at bay. A digital certificate was emailed to them. We extend our congratulations to them for winning the award!


The IEEE Region 10, also sometimes referred as the Asia Pacific Region, comprises of 57 Sections, 6 Councils, 17 Sub-sections, 515 Chapters, 60 Affinity Groups and 958 Student Branches. It covers a geographical area stretching from South Korea and Japan in the north-east to New Zealand in the south, and Pakistan in the west. With a membership of 107,154, it is one of the largest regions in IEEE.
The IEEE R10 Paper Contest consists of three levels, i.e., first, second, and third prizes, which are selected based on the technical content, Innovation, practical implementation, references and overall presentation. The Paper Contest aims to recognize technical, written and verbal communication skills of IEEE student members.
This is the third award won by Tan Ting Feng and Fow Jun Ee using their Final Year Project (FYP). Previously their FYP won the Best Paper Award of 2016 IEEE Conference on Systems, Process and Control (ICSPC) and Innovate Malaysia Design Competition (IMDC) 2016 MathWorks Track.
