Biography

Wan Mohd Yusof Rahiman gained his undergraduate degree from Cardiff University specialising in Manufacturing Engineering (BEng). After working a few years in manufacturing industry at Panasonic Manufacturing Ltd in Cardiff and Lotus Cars Ltd in Norwich. He then completed control-engineering study in the Control System Centre, University of Manchester, with PhD in field of Fault Detection and Isolation for Pipeline Systems. Dr Wan Rahiman joined as a senior lecturer in School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2009. His research interests lie in the area of modelling nonlinear systems and their controller algorithm on a wide range of development industrial projects, particularly, in drone and autonomous vehicle technologies. He endeavours to develop a smart electronics with Internet of Things (IoT) solution that could widely applied in the medical industry.

Project title: Dynamic Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) Navigation

Project summary: Modified existing Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) fleet can caused disruption in the navigation system that has already set by the vendor. There will be more challenging task if the AGV fleets are using one-way path from its reference guidance. Therefore, this project requires little adjustment and extracting information from encoders and odometer of the AGV. These data will be designed into control system with artificial intelligence platform such that AGV able to re-route with short control, efficiently used paths with little blocking and avoid congestion pathways. Real-time kinematic (RTK) in conjunction with Ultra Wide Band (UWB) will be using to locate the AGV and its position. RTK is a satellite navigation technique used to enhance the precision of position data.

Funding: Stipend support from RM2,500/month and Tuition fee worth of RM3,700 is waived by USM for 1st year of study.

Note: USM is expecting 1 Q1/Q2 ISI journal and 1 Scopus journal within 1.5 years
