Biography

Dr. Abdul Sattar Din is currently a senior lecturer at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), one of the prominent research university in Malaysia. He is teaching courses under Mechatronics Program such as Robotics, Control System Design, Thermofluids, etc.

He obtained his bachelor degree in Mechatronics Engineering (B.Eng) with Honors in 2006 from International Islamic University Malaysia. After graduation, he received training and worked in semiconductor industry (Silterra Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.) as a process engineer for three years. In 2010, he received the government and USM sponsorship to further his Master and PhD under the Academic Staff Training Scheme USM. He did his Master of Science (MSc.) in Smart Technology and Robotics at the Universiti Putra Malaysia. For his Master, he did research in robot swarm cooperative localization. In 2015 he pursued his PhD in Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. His PhD research was in soft robotic, a new branch of robotics that concerns with building robots entirely out of soft stretchable materials without any rigid skeleton. From 2018 until now, he started his career in USM as a senior lecturer.

Research Interest

His research interest in general is in robotic and smart technology. In particular, his main interest is in soft robotic and bio-inspired robotic. Soft robotic is a relatively new branch of robotic with a lot of opportunities for research. A soft robot requires soft actuators, soft sensors, soft electronics, and different control strategies, all of which are a new branch of research.

Prospective students interested to do research in the related field are welcome to apply.
