USM-OPPSTAR INK MOA TO ADVANCE OPPORTUNITIES IN RESEARCH AND STUDENT DEVELOPMENT

USM PENANG, 9 December 2022 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) via the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering today has entered into a partnership with Oppstar Technology Sdn. Bhd. with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA).

Signing on behalf of USM was Professor Dato’ Gs. Dr. Narimah Samat, who currently Exercises the Function of the USM Vice-Chancellor, and on behalf of Oppstar was its Chief Operation Officer (COO), Tan Chun Chiat and witnessed by the Dean, USM School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Shahrel Azmin Sundi @ Suandi and Oppstar Technology Sdn. Bhd. Senior Design Manager, Leow Eng Chai.

In her speech, Narimah said, “USM is honoured to have Oppstar as one of the industry partners in offering support for the betterment of USM students and research technologies, especially in the E&E sector.”

“Through the channelling of fund amounting to more than RM750,000 into the USM research fund for three years, this initiative will support the final-year students of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, through their industrial trainings as well as their final-year projects.

“This programme will also provide the opportunity for researchers to implement high impact, industrial-based participatory research, especially in the field of integrated circuit design (IC Design) that is aligned with the 4th Industrial Revolution which adheres to more advanced, challenging and interesting approaches,” she said.

Narimah added, “All these are also part of USM’s aim to enhance its educational programmes through multiple initiatives involving various collaborative arrangements with other parties, in the effort to enhance the research contents and strengthen the industrial networking.”
